Matamoros è il nuovo singolo dei The Afghan Whigs, secondo estratto dall’album Do to the beast uscito il 7 aprile 2014, opera che ha segnato il ritorno del gruppo dopo ben sedici anni di assenza.
Dopo Algiers, la band alternative rock statunitense lancia questa canzone, che viene trasmessa dalle emittenti radiofoniche a partire da oggi, mercoledì 23 luglio.
Per il video ufficiale di Matamoros uscito su Youtube il 14 luglio scorso, il gruppo si è affidato al regista Phil Harder, che dal 1991 (Turn on the water) lavora con la band, dirigendo gran parte delle loro clip, inclusa la nota canzone Gentlemen ed il primo singolo della nuova era discografica battezzato Algiers.
Il filmato è interamente ambientato nella metropolitana di New York, e nelle immagini si vedono vari personaggi impegnati a ballare, come i componenti della crew W.A.F.F.L.E., che rubano la scena con una coreografia particolarmente inquietante.
