Il brano è stato scritto da Josh Homme, Michael Shuman, Dean Fertita & Troy Van Leeuwen, con produzione di Mark Ronson.
The Way You Used to Do è una canzone dedicata a Brody Dalle, la moglie del frontman del gruppo rock californiano Josh Homme, che parla anche del loro primo incontro, quando lei aveva appena 17 anni.
Homme ha anche affermato che questo pezzo è musicalmente parlando, un tributo a Cab Calloway e al film “Hellzapoppin”.
