Funknroll è il titolo del nuovo singolo del cantautore statunitense Prince Rogers Nelson, in arte di Prince, che anticipa l’uscita di Art Official Age e Plectrumelectrum, trentaquattresimo studio album che vedrà la luce il prossimo 30 settembre.
Lo stesso giorno, l’artista rilascerà un secondo album intitolato Plectrumelectrum, primo disco collaborativo con l’emergente girl band 3rdEyeGirl formata da Donna Grantis (alla chitarra), Hannah Ford Welton (alla batteria) e Ida Nielsen (al basso). L’album è stato registrato dal vivo (durante il tour inglese “Hit & Run” ad inizio 2014) ed in analogico, e possiamo considerarlo un elettrizzante testamento funk-rock.
Art Official Age è invece un classico disco da solista di Prince, prodotto, arrangiato, composto ed eseguito da Prince insieme a Joshua Welton. L’album propone un mix di soul, R&B e funk. Le due opere saranno vendute separatamente.
Funknroll arriva dopo il precedente singolo U Know, e la voce che ascoltiamo è una via di mezzo tra quella di un bambino e quella di un robot diabolico. Questo brano funky elettronico, propone inoltre un beat scandito da drum machine e campionamenti di varia natura.
In rotazione radiofonica in Italia da lunedì 22 settembre, la nuova canzone del “folletto di Minneapolis” francamente non mi entusiasma.
