Disponibile dalle ore 21 del 25 giugno 2020, Parasite Eve è un singolo dei Bring Me The Horizon incentrato sul cosiddetto Coronavirus. Il brano anticipa il futuro ottavo album in studio della rock band britannica, al momento in cui scrivo ancora senza titolo e release date. Dalle ore 21 sarà online il video ufficiale che accompagna questa nuova e attesa canzone, scritta da Matt Kean, Matt Nicholls, Lee Malia, Oliver Sykes & Jordan Fish e prodotta dagli ultimi due. Il filmato è stato diretto dal frontman del gruppo.
Il titolo del brano, realizzato durante la quarantena, deriva dal videogame omonimo del 1998 per PlayStation, ispirato dall’omonimo romanzo di Hideaki Sena, da cui è stato tratto anche un film. Sebbene l’ispirazione per la traccia non sia venuta dalla pandemia di COVID-19, ci sono molti riferimenti ad esso.
Nella canzone, il gruppo capitanato da Oliver Sykes critica le popolazioni e i leaders mondiali come Donald Trump e il brasiliano Jair Bolsonaro, che hanno preso sottogamba il fenomeno. La band si scaglia anche contro i cosiddetti cospirazionisti e le loro pericolose fake news, che grazie al web si diffondono in tutto il mondo. Alcuni ad esempio sostengono che il coronavirus si diffonda tramite il 5G, altri che sia stato creato dalla Cina in laboratorio.
